It’s a ferocious, ear-jarring and eye-watering album, perfectly showcasing Motörhead’s trademark style of dirty no holds barred rock’n’roll delivered with a punk snarl and raw. With Motrhead, Fast Eddie Clarke, Lemmy, Phil Philthy Animal Taylor. three weeks after the initial release of the album in black vinyl, the album was released in a limited edition of 15,000 in green vinyl. Released March 24th 1979 Overkill is the second studio album Motörhead released in 1979 and was listed among the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time. the chiswick album 'motrhead' had been a hasty affair as was its production, although it had a sub-bootleg quality which may be appealing, 'overkill' had more spring and bounce, and a thundering title track that would become a show-stopper for years to come. the first release from those sessions was the single release of 'overkill' backed with 'too late, too late' in 7" and 12" pressings. sales of the single brought the band their first appearance on bbc television's top of the pops, which gave bronze the confidence to get the band back into the studio to record a second album. the band toured to promote their single 'louie louie' while chiswick released the motrhead album in white vinyl, to keep the momentum going. bronze records signed the band in 1978 and gave them time in wessex studios in london to record richard berry's 'louie louie' and a new song by the band, 'tear ya down'. Izzy (Stradlin)was the first one to start playing behind it, and once that happened Axl started making up words, and it took off that way.Deluxe double cd edition with a bonus 19 track cd featuring b-sides, alternative versions, the 1979 peel session and live in concert. Oh, and some band called Motorhead gave us Overkill and Bomber. The second Motorhead album and first for Bronze records originally released in 1979. Dispelling the widespread belief that the riff was born from a practise exercise, Slash told Eddie Trunk in 2022: "I was sitting around the house where Guns used to live at one point, in '86 I guess it was, and I just came up with this riff. Guns N' Roses' monumental song 'Sweet Child O' Mine' opens with one of Slash's standout riffs. 'Overkill' starts off this album with the famous double pedal drum beats.
